Its a Great Time of the Year for Landscape Renovation Projects -

Spring and summer is a great time for landscaping or doing landscape renovation projects. Before you or your contractor dig, call 811 to have utility-owned lines on your property marked.

With commercial property landscaping, It's important to know that pipelines may be located anywhere-including under streets, paved parking lots, walk ways and private property. Sometimes there are utilities and fixtures just inches below the surface. Excavation, planting, demolition and other forms of digging are major causes of pipeline and utility damage.  For your safety, and the safety of those around you, it is important to know where pipelines are located before you commence any type of excavation.

Regardless of the size or scope of the excavation you're planning, commercial landscaping services must follow these 5 IMPORTANT TIPS:

  1. Mark out your proposed excavation area in white paint or provide other suitable markings.

  1. Call Underground Service Alert (USA) at 811, at least two business days prior to excavation. http://www.usanorth.org/800.227.2600
  2. USA will coordinate with The Gas Company and other utility owners in the area to mark the locations of utility-owned underground lines, pipes, and cables near your dig site. Wait until they either mark the gas pipelines and indicate pipe material and diameter-or advise you the area is clear of our pipes.
  3. Use only hand tools within 24 inches of the marked utility line to determine the exact locations of lines before using power excavation equipment.
  4. Report any pipe damage by calling The Gas Company immediately. No damage is too small to report.

The Service is FREE !

The service is free and can help prevent injury, costly property damage and loss of utility service.  Call USA at 811 between am and PM, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays.)
