And in choosing this dramatic paradigm to traditional lawns, they are lowering both costs and maintenance time incrementally.

Commercial Landscape Maintenance and Design

"starts with a theme that is environmentally balanced with water efficiency efficiency".

While a landscape constructed using sustainable practices will improve the design by conserving resources such as commercial landscaping and water management, the key is the cohesive effect of the design process, plant selection and irrigation methods of the plan must all synchronize.

There are varying degrees of sustainable landscaping practices, but essentially it should incorporate a landscape design that is in balance with the local weather and one that requires minimal resources such as energy usage, herbicides, fertilizers and, water. Condominium and Hoa Landscaping owners spend Millions of dollars annually in maintaining traditional landscaping, which includes design and implementation. Unfortunately, challenges will arise when these processes are not implemented.

Numerous commercial landscaping materials can also be incorporated into the design. It's important to be frugal and use recycled materials when at all possible. For example, impervious materials may already exist on the site such as pavers, boulders, or other rock that could be incorporated into a retaining wall, walk way or patio.

In addition to drought tolerant plants, water-efficient irrigationefficient irrigation systems are a must in creating a sustainable landscape. For example, irrigation designers can engineer a system using smart watering technology. Depending on the layout, a subsurface or point source drip irrigation system may be incorporated into the design. If a system has been onsite for several years, newer technology is available such as smart irrigation controllers, soil sensors or automated flow control. Even if the system is new, irrigation system must be properly maintained to prevent overspray onto hardscape and pavement, for example.

In considering a sustainable landscaping design, it is vital that both the landscaper and client consider the appropriate factors such as plant requirements, soil conditions, local climate, terrain, the design to be achieved, budget, and goals.

There are many sustainable landscaping materials available in a variety of forms, textures and color, with many combining recycled stone, plastics with wood byproducts. Requiring minimal commercial landscape maintenance, they make great alternatives for traditional decks, benches, and raised planters. Materials such as decomposed granite, rubber mulch and concrete made from fly ash, or repurposed brick are also good alternatives.
